Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor, used to treat symptoms of acid reflux. Symptoms of acid reflux can include heartburn, acidic taste in the mouth and stomach discomfort. Omeprazole works by reducing the amount of acid that your stomach produces.

    What is Omeprazole?

Omeprazole 20mg capsules is a clinical medication used to treat acid reflux. Omeprazole can also be used to treat heartburn and indigestion.

Acid reflux is a condition where stomach acid moves back into the oesophagus (food pipe). This can cause pain and discomfort.

Omeprazole belongs to a class of drugs called proton pump inhibitors. A proton pump inhibitor reduces the amount of acid produced in the stomach. This allows damaged tissue to heal and helps to reduce any discomfort caused by acid reflux.

Omeprazole gastro-resistant 20mg capsules are only obtainable with a valid prescription. In order to buy Omeprazole, you must first have an online consultation. We can then prescribe this medication to you. Contact us for more information.

Alongside treating acid reflux, Omeprazole can be used to bring relief to other conditions. These conditions include stomach ulcers and erosive oesophagitis. Although effective in treating these conditions, we only prescribe it to treat acid reflux.

The active ingredient in this medication is Omeprazole. For further information, please see the patient information leaflet.

    How it works

Acid reflux is a gastric condition where the lower oesophageal sphincter (the muscle that joins the oesophagus and stomach) is weakened. This muscle is responsible for tightening the oesophagus once food has passed into the stomach. If it does not tighten correctly, stomach acid may move backward into the oesophagus. This can cause indigestion and heartburn which may lead to pain and discomfort.

Omeprazole is used as a treatment for excessive amounts of acid in the stomach. Leaving acid reflux untreated can lead to painful conditions. Some of these conditions include stomach ulcers, inflamed esophagus and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

Omeprazole capsules work on the lining of the inner stomach by reducing the activity of proton pumps. Proton pumps are responsible for producing stomach acid. Reducing the levels of acid in the stomach improves symptoms of acid reflux.
